Scripture: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
God spoke these words to Joshua at a terrifying moment. Moses—the only leader Israel had ever known—had just died. God was telling Joshua: You’re up. Lead these people into the Promised Land, into battles, into the unknown.
Joshua could have said, “But I’m not Moses. I’m not qualified.” Instead, God preemptively addressed the fear: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Wherever means wherever. Into battles you’re not sure you can win. Into roles you don’t feel qualified for. Into the unknown future you can’t see. God’s presence goes with you into the hard stuff.
A friend moved across the country for a job she wasn’t sure she could handle. New city, no friends, intimidating role. She whispered Joshua 1:9 in her car every morning: “You will be with me wherever I go. Even here. Even in this.”
Two years later, she said that daily reminder of God’s presence—especially when she felt most out of her depth—was what carried her. Not her competence. Not her confidence. God’s presence.
The world says: only go where you feel strong and sure. God says: be strong and courageous, not because you have it all figured out, but because I’ll be with you wherever you go.
The Trust Triangle:
BELIEVE: God’s presence isn’t limited to where I feel comfortable or capable. He goes with me into the unknown, the hard, and the intimidating.
RECEIVE: The place I’m stepping into—the one that scares me, the one I don’t feel ready for—God is already there, and He’ll be with me in it.
RESPOND: Today, what step am I avoiding because I’m afraid? How would I move forward differently if I truly believed God will be with me wherever I go?
Reflection: Where is God calling you to go that feels too hard, too unknown, or too intimidating? What if His presence is enough?
Prayer: “LORD, You’ve commanded me to be strong and courageous because You will be with me wherever I go. Today, I’m scared to [specific step or situation]. I don’t feel ready. But I choose to believe You’re already there, and You’ll be with me in it. Give me courage to take the next step, trusting that Your presence goes with me into the unknown.”
