Scripture: “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23
It’s worth noting where this promise comes from: the book of Lamentations. Not from a mountaintop victory, but from the valley of grief. Jeremiah wrote these words in the middle of devastation—Jerusalem destroyed, people exiled, everything falling apart.
And yet: “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.”
This is especially for those who woke up today already exhausted. For those carrying yesterday’s failures. For those who feel like you’ve used up all your chances with God.
You haven’t.
His mercies are new this morning. Not recycled. Not rationed. New. Fresh. Full. Waiting for you.
The world operates on scarcity: You get so many chances—and then it runs out. Three strikes and you’re out. But God’s economy is different. His compassion doesn’t deplete. It renews. Every. Single. Morning.
Yesterday’s failure? Covered by today’s mercy. Last week’s doubt? Met with today’s faithfulness. That thing you keep struggling with? He already knew you’d need mercy for it today, and He made sure it was there waiting.
“Great is Your faithfulness.” God keeps showing up. He doesn’t give up on you. He doesn’t get tired of extending mercy. He doesn’t say, “I’ve already forgiven that. Why do you keep messing up?” He says, “I know. Here’s more mercy. Let’s try again.”
This is what makes God’s way so much higher than the world’s. The world says you should be better by now. God says He’s committed to walking with you through every stumble, every setback, every slow step forward.
The Trust Triangle:
BELIEVE: God’s mercies are genuinely new every single morning. His compassion doesn’t run out.
RECEIVE: No matter what I did yesterday, no matter how many times I’ve failed, God’s mercy is fresh and full for me today.
RESPOND: Today, I don’t have to carry yesterday’s shame or failure. I can receive today’s mercy and move forward. What would I do today if I truly believed I’m starting with a full tank of God’s grace?
Reflection: What are you carrying from yesterday that God is offering to cover with today’s mercy?
Prayer: “LORD, Your compassions never fail. Thank You that I’m not starting today with yesterday’s deficit. Thank You that Your mercy is new this morning—for me, specifically, in my actual mess. Today, I receive Your fresh grace for [specific struggle or failure]. Help me walk forward in freedom, not in shame.”
