Day 4: You’re Invited

Scripture: “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” – John 1:12-13

Over the past few days, we’ve established that God is good, He knows you completely, and He is actively for you. But here’s a question you might be asking: How do I know this is true for me? How do I step into this relationship where I can actually experience His goodness, His presence, His love?

The answer is simple, though profound: You receive Him.

You’ve seen it in every relationship that matters. Someone can love you, but if you never receive that love, if you keep them at arm’s length, the relationship stays distant. God’s love is already extended toward you. The question is: Will you receive it?

John 1:12 gives us the most beautiful invitation: “To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” Not the obligation. Not the burden. The right. The privilege. The gift.

This isn’t about being good enough. Verse 13 makes that clear. You don’t become God’s child through your own efforts, your family background, or your religious performance. You’re born of God. It’s His work, not yours.

Here’s what the world gets wrong: It tells you to earn your way, prove your worth, climb the ladder to acceptance. Even religion can make salvation feel like a performance. Do enough, be enough, try enough, and maybe God will accept you.

Here’s what’s higher: You can’t earn what’s already been offered as a gift. Jesus already did the work. He lived the perfect life you couldn’t live. He died the death your sins deserved. He rose from the grave, proving His power over sin and death. And now He says, “It’s finished. Will you receive it?”

If you’ve never received Jesus as your Savior, or if you’re not sure you have, today can be that day. It’s not complicated. It’s not about having all the answers or feeling a certain way. It’s about believing and receiving.

Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

That’s it. Believe and receive.

If you’re ready, you can pray something like this right now:

“Jesus, I believe You are who You said You are—the Son of God. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I can’t save myself, and I’m done trying. I need You. Forgive me. Come into my life. I receive Your gift of salvation. I want to follow You. Thank You for making me Your child. Amen.”

If you just prayed that prayer: Welcome to the family. You are now a child of God, not because you earned it, but because you received it. Everything in this devotional is now yours. Every promise. Every truth. Every word of love. It’s all for you.

If you’re still wrestling with this decision: That’s okay. God is patient. He’s not going anywhere. Keep reading. Keep asking questions. Let Him meet you where you are. There’s no pressure here. Just an open invitation that will never expire.

The Trust Triangle of Faith:

BELIEVE: Salvation is a gift I receive, not a status I earn. Jesus has already done the work.

RECEIVE: This gift is for me. Right now. As I am. I don’t have to wait until I’m “better” or “ready.”

RESPOND: If I’ve received Christ, I can live today as someone who belongs to God – secure, loved, and invited into His family. If I’m still considering, I can be honest with God about my questions and keep seeking.

Reflection: Have you received Jesus as your Savior? If so, when? Take a moment to remember and thank Him. If not, what’s holding you back?

Prayer: “Jesus, thank You for the invitation. Thank You that I don’t have to earn my way to You. [If you’ve received Christ:] Thank You for making me Your child. Help me live like someone who belongs to You. [If you’re still considering:] I’m being honest with You. I have questions, doubts, fears. Meet me here. Show me what I need to see. Help me take the next step toward You.”
